Qualification for the RNIP

To be considered for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), prospective candidates must meet the federal requirements and those established by the participating community they intend to settle in. The federal criteria include:

1. Community Recommendation: Candidates must receive a recommendation from one of the designated communities.
2. Work Experience: You need at least one year of continuous work experience in the past three years, totaling a minimum of 1,560 hours, or you should have graduated from a publicly funded post-secondary institution in the recommending community.
3. Genuine Job Offer: A vital requirement is having a real job offer to work in one of the designated communities.
4. Language Proficiency: Meet the language threshold for the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type/level of the offered job.
5. Settlement Funds: You must demonstrate the ability to settle and support yourself and your family in the community.

The community recommendation is based on various factors, including your intention to live in the designated community, the economic needs of the community, your work experience, skills, and your ties to the community. Recommendations are made by a designated community economic development organization.

For work experience, eligible candidates must have a minimum of 1,560 hours (equivalent to one year) of paid work experience in the past three years. This experience must be in a single occupation and can be accumulated in Canada or abroad, even with employment breaks. Self-employed work experience does not qualify. You must have performed most of the main duties and all essential duties described in the NOC for your profession.

In terms of education, you need a Canadian high school diploma or a foreign equivalent. If you completed your education outside Canada, you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from a designated organization to confirm its equivalence to Canadian standards. The ECA report should be less than five years old.

International students may be exempt from work experience requirements if they meet specific conditions, including graduating from a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada and being a full-time student during their studies.

A genuine job offer in one of the participating communities is essential. The offered wage must meet the minimum wage specified in the Canada Job Bank, and your previous experience should demonstrate your ability to perform the job’s duties.

Language requirements are based on the NOC skill type/level of your job offer:

• NOC 0 and A: Minimum CLB 6.
• NOC B: Minimum CLB 5.
• NOC C and D: Minimum CLB 4.

You must provide recent test results from a designated language testing organization, less than two years old.

Finally, candidates must show sufficient funds to support themselves and their families. These funds should not be borrowed and can include bank account statements, real property documents, or other investments guaranteeing payment.
