The Post-Graduation Work Permit

Home The Post-Graduation Work Permit

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a program that allows international students who have graduated from a designated Canadian educational institution to gain valuable work experience in Canada.

The PGWP is an open work permit, which means that it allows graduates to work for any employer in any occupation, without requiring a job offer or a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

To be eligible for the PGWP, international students must have completed a full-time program of study at a designated post-secondary institution in Canada that was at least 6 to 8 months long. The program must have led to a degree, diploma, or certificate.

The length of the PGWP depends on the length of the student’s program of study, with a maximum duration of three years. Graduates can use their PGWP to gain Canadian work experience and potentially qualify for permanent residency through one of the federal or provincial immigration programs.
